Kara Elvestad and Gabriela Rudnik the winners of the competition with the Mayor Mr John Peach
Have Your Say Competition
On Friday 26th June, eight Year 8 students took part in the regional final of the
Have Your Say dialogue competition at Jack Hunt School.
Amena Jamil, Sanya Rafique, Sian Paton, Darina Kurumileva, Hadiqah Khan, Saida Smolak, Kara Elvestad and Gabriela Rudnik performed their Spanish dialogue in front of a panel of 3 judges. The judges were Languages teachers from all the schools represented in the final. After performing the dialogue they had learnt ahead of the day, all pairs were given a new dialogue which they had not seen before and had just ten minutes to practise it – no need to learn it off by heart this time! At the end of this second round, all students made their way to the hall and had refreshments, whilst waiting for the Mayor of Peterborough to arrive. Rachel Hawkes, one of the organisers, said a few words about the event, followed by a few words from the Mayor.
Then it was time to find out who had done well! The names of the people coming in the top ten were called: Sian and Darina heard their names for 9th place. And eventually the time came for the winners to be announced. Drum roll... And the winners are... Kara Elvestad and Gabriela Rudnik from Thomas Deacon Academy! The girls performed their dialogue one more time, after which they were presented with a shield and a certificate. They can be very proud to be the very first winners of this great competition.
It was a very pleasant afternoon and a great way to end the week.
Our TDA students represented their school very well and enjoyed the experience.
Our current Year 7 are now up for a challenge: to do as well as their older peers next year!
